A taste of memory

Sometimes, it isn't the taste but what that taste reminds us of that is the attraction. Maybe what Modesta tasted was her youth. Maybe the taste was her aunt's knitting needles weaved into the professor's words on the laws of chemistry. Maybe it was a taste of freedom (Meik Wiking, 2019, The Art of Making Memories: How to Create and Remember Happy Moments).
We all know the importance of creating and remembering happy moments. However, we find it difficult to keep them as we are distracted by what is happening around us, especially in these crazy times we are living.
Revisiting my memories, I want to bring back the good times in the Greek Islands. I went there with my partner last summer and we both fell in love with the landscape, the hospitality of Greek people and the food. As food lovers, my partner and I are very interested in food and we enjoy cooking and eating together. I would say that eating is one of my passions. I remembered the summer salads with the best dressings, fresh fish, feta cheese and saganaki (Greek fried cheese)! If you like Greek food, you know what I'm talking about! I love the taste of saganaki, crunchy on the outside and melted and warm on the inside. When I find a food I like, I will order it every time. I remember trying saganaki in different places but, the best one I had, was near the hotel we stayed in. It was our first night in Athens and we found a small local restaurant with a special taste. The lady who was working there was really nice and she gave us good food recommendations. I tried to remember the name of the restaurant and made some Google Maps searches but with no success. However, I do remember having a lovely dinner and the best saganaki.
If you have the opportunity to travel this year (fingers crossed) and you are looking for a warm place, I truly recommend to go the Greek Islands. Naxos and Santorini are worth visiting and the sunsets don't fail to disappoint. We like Naxos in particular because of its local vibe, the old town (Chora) and the beautiful beaches. Plaka is one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece and among the ten most beautiful in the world. I also highly recommend renting a quad or a motorbike and riding around the island. We visited Melanes, a mountain style village and one of the most ancient settlements in Naxos. It's very lovely and it has nice valley views.

And well, what can I say about Santorini (Thera in classic Greek), the rocky island? It's undeniable that Santorini has something unique that captures you from the very beginning. For us, it was its rocky landscape, the cliffs, the sunsets and the architecture. A great summer destination without a doubt!

Hope you liked the pictures and enjoyed reading this post as much as I did remembering my happy moments in Greece!
I can't wait to visit Greece 😊
